Six-Eyed Shadow Squid

A massive, navy-blue squid that was commonly seen cruising just below the ocean’s surface. Six-eyed shadow squids were harmless despite their fearsome appearance and dramatic name. They were slow, and surprisingly intelligent. Tales of sailors thrown overboard being rescued from a watery demise by the tentacles of the shadow squid were spread all across the maritime regions of Legere. Six-eyed shadow squids also seemed to entertain companies of Callyki--the fast moving, smaller creatures appeared to be enjoyable for the shadow squid to watch. The giant cephalopods were often seen trying to follow them, although they couldn’t move very quickly.

Six-eyed shadow squids were named for their pitch-black splotch patterns across their body and their 6 wide, unblinking eyes with blood-red irises. They had 6 tentacles, all of even length. These could span up to 13 meters, which was almost double the length of the shadow squid’s body of 7 meters. These tentacles were used to propel its massive body forward, as well as grab onto things (sometimes, shadow squids would latch onto ships in order to hitch a free ride, much to the chagrin of sailors). The suckers on these giant cephalopods lacked the sharp teeth that their smaller relatives had. They also possessed a cyclostomatic beak as opposed to the two-piece, bird-like beak found on common squids.

Shadow squids were also hunted for their delicious flesh, which was often fried and sold in the form of sticks. These “squid sticks'' were a common street food in Icthy’s Rest, Sharkville, and Gong.
